Mission Statement
The Health Sciences Sponsored Project Pre-Award Office (HS SPPO) exists to provide exceptional customer service and guidance training to faculty, students and staff to ensure they submit superior quality proposals that maximize extramural funding for the Heatlh Sciences (HS) community, as well as further their personal and professional advancement.
Our Role and Responsibilities
Pre-award office for NIH & AHRQ and NIH & AHRQ subaward proposals for Health Sciences: Review, sign and submit Health Sciences proposals for NIH and AHRQ funding. Review and sign and submit Just-in-Time documents for NIH, AHRQ and related subawards, and most other actions required by the funding agency prior to the release of an award, with the exception of advance approval to spend requests.
PI exception requests: review of all PI exception requests for Health Sciences proposals and prospective PIs, regardless of funding agency, on behalf of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Health Sciences - School of Medicine and School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Health Sciences Fellowships, Scholarships and Loan Repayment Program award applications: Review and institutional signature for fellowship, scholarship and Loan Repayment Program award applications and acceptance documents for Health Sciences fellows and faculty for any applications and awards which are not handled as grant proposals by OCGA (Office of Contract & Grant Administration).

Office location:
HSSPPO is located in SOM/IMG Building 2 on the UCSD School of Medicine campus.
The entrance door is green and it is on the north-facing side of the building; west of the bridge to the VA Hospital; south of the Stein Building; and east of the Med Ed Building.
IMG Building 2 is indicated as building 851 on the following [Campus Map]
Office hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. There is an after-hours proposal drop box located to the left of the Myers Drive entrance doors.
